The Hawaii Convention Center is a testimony to what talented professionals can
accomplish when working together. The State of Hawaii was well prepared to conduct a
competition. The Request for Proposal was well thought out. Four highly regarded teams
from across the country competed for the privilege to build the project. Based on
technical excellence and a "Hawaiian sense of place" design, the state selected a team of
architects, engineers and construction specialists. Then
the state worked with them to achieve a
beautiful facility ahead of schedule and on budget. The facility includes 200,000 square
feet of on-grade exhibit area, 150,000 square feet of meeting rooms including a 36,000
square feet ballroom, 240,000 square feet of lobbies and prefunction space, a loading dock
with space for 20 trucks, two theaters, parking for 800 cars and kitchen and concession
space.
