The Los Angeles Convention Center Expansion added more than twice the
space, over 2 million square feet, of the existing facility. The result is a
facility with over 3 million square feet. The new exhibit hall is more than 345,000
square feet with only 14 columns and a 40 foot clear height. Over 86,000 square feet
of meeting rooms were added. The project spans a major downtown thoroughfare, Pico
Boulevard, to tie to the existing building. The central plant was expanded by 3,000
tons. Two levels of parking were constructed beneath the exhibit hall. About
180,000 square feet of that space was designed to be converted at a later date to an
additional exhibit hall. In addition, a separate parking structure for 1200 more
cars was built.
