The MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas is a complex campus comprising one of
the worlds largest hotels (over 5000 rooms), gaming facilities, swimming pools and
theme park. The Master Plan includes two more hotels with a total of 1600 additional
rooms. As part of the Master Plan, this project, the Conference Center and Central Plant
Upgrade are complete. The central plant chiller capacity was increased by 8000 tons, and
efficiency improvements were made to allow the postponement of another 2000 tons. At over
360,000 square feet, the center is larger than many city convention facilities. The MGM
hosts many clients that launch new products and sales training seminars. To accommodate
these clients, the ballroom and exhibit hall have upgraded finishes. The exhibit hall can
be divided into as many as 14 meeting rooms using movable partitions. Each room has
individual control of lighting, air conditioning and audio visual. In addition, there are
smaller meeting rooms, executive meeting rooms, a boardroom, and kitchen facilities. Only
fourteen months passed from design contract to completion, a true "fast track."
The project required that mechanical, electrical, plumbing/fire protection, vertical
transportation, audio/visual and acoustical design all be provided under
one manager..
