Fresno Convention Center Master Plan |
Cost: N/A |
|
Fresno, California |
Completion:
1999 |
|
The existing facilities were constructed in the late 1960s.
Desiring a more competitive facility, the City undertook a master plan study.
The plan
called for the expansion in a parking lot to the north with ties to the existing facility
by bridges over a service road. The master plan was shelved due to concerns over parking
availability downtown. A private developer is currently in construction of a design build
project.

You just cannot win
them all! The design/build competition came down to two competing
teams. Bridging documents were prepared for the Owner by TVS &
Associates. The project comprises almost 3,000,000 SF including an elevated exhibit
hall, ball rooms, meeting rooms, lobbies, concourses and back of house
functions like kitchens and truck docks. Complicating the design was a
major thoroughfare that passed under the building. While the team's
proposal was not selected, over a six month period, a tremendous amount of
pre-construction and design services were poured into the effort by all team
members to optimize design solutions at an acceptable price.
McCleskey Consulting's role was as a
consultant to the Contractor and MEP engineers. |

Cost verification survey. The feasibility study for this expansion
was performed in 1996. When the expansion of the facility became eminent, it was necessary
to verify that the funds available could still cover the cost of the project. The facility
is in the design phase to expand to the north of the existing. The project is made more
complicated by a design build project underway on the same block.
