This convention center was built using a convention design-bid-build
delivery method. The building features a 107,000 square foot outdoor exhibit area, column
free, covered by a tensile fabric roof of Teflon and fiberglass. At night, it shines like
a lantern. The exhibit hall is approximately 200,000 square feet. There are 36 meeting
rooms, a ballroom and a kitchen for 2500 meals per day. There are two levels of parking
below grade and an enclosed truck dock. The central plant for this project uses direct
fired absorption chillers to overcome high demand charges. Over all, there is
approximately 800,000 square feet in the facility.

Unlike the original construction project, this project used a
design/build delivery method that allowed for bidding subcontract work,
CM at risk. The expansion
doubled the size of the facility by adding about 800,000 square feet. The
previously outdoor exhibit hall has been enclosed and conditioned. The central plant
capacity has been increased by the addition of an electric centrifugal chiller. By having
a hybrid plant (both electric and gas chillers available) the center will have the ability to optimize
energy cost savings.
